Lectures

Week 1- 17.04.2020

Lecture 1 : Introduction to the module

Mr. Faizal provided us with 2 videos about 12 principles of animation and animation so that we can have a better understanding of how animation should works. He explained about the workflow of creating an animation based on our understanding of 12 core principles. He also suggests us to watch more animations because the more we watch, the more we gain. While watching animations, keep in mind with 12 principles of animation to get a better insight.

Exercise

Week 1- 14.04.2020

Exercise 1 : Creating characters by using 6 basic shapes

During the MCO, I still couldn't get any drawing tablet. Mr. Faizal suggested me an alternative way to learn by using the traditional way: sketch on paper. Below is the outcome for exercise 1.

<Fig 1: Final outcome>

*Update*

I tried use my brother surface to digitalize the character. After that, I realized it was hard to draw because the machine was quite old and buffering most of the time.

Practices: Character design

After I realised that the surface was hard to draw, I moved back to using basic shapes to create more characters and practice more on my animate skill since it is my first time using it.

Week 2- 17.04.2020
Exercise 2 : Report of 12 principles of Animation

Week 2- 21.04.2020
Exercise 3

Mr. Faizal has uploaded the tutorial videos on how to create character model sheets and we are assigned to choose one character to make a model sheet.

Week 6- 19.05.2020
Update : Character & Background

After getting feedback from Mr. Faizal, I redesign my background and improvise on my character.

Week 7- 29.05.2020
Project 1 : 5 secs of animation

We were tasked to sketch out 2 different ideas of storyboard with the character that we've designed.

Week 11- 26.06.2020
Final project : Current situation of Covid-19

We were tasked to sketch out our idea first.

Week 12 - 03.07.2020
Progression check : Rough animatics

No progression this week due to my drawing pen issue.

Week 13 - 10.07.2020
Progression check : Rough animatics

Week 14 - 17.07.2020
Progression check : Background

My background is city street view since my idea was hanging around outside.

Week 15 - 26.07.2020
Final Project : Final Outcome

Here is the final of 15 seconds animation, I overdone a little bit and its longer than how it was planed. I also added the sound effect since i was doing the film studies assignment at the same time, it was about adding sound effect on animatics as well.

Reflection

Experiences

It was a whole new experience of using animate and also the first time that I use a drawing tablet to draw and paint, I was and still struggling with the timeframe of the animation since i still learning but it also definitely one of the hardest moment of my life *I swear* because my drawing tablet was kept having issues. At the end of the day, I managed to finish it and the result is not the best but I believe more practice can actually improve.

Findings

I'm quite happy with the final product but I know there is still a lot of improvement can be done because I'm still struggling with the timeframe of each animation and motion control like the legs, character expression wasn't smooth enough. However, I've learned so much during the process, thanks to Mr. Faizal kept encouraging us to practice more on improvising our character and animate skill.
